Dynamite Walls photo zine featuring 12 photos taken on a Lomography Diana camera.
In June 2008, my dear friend Clark and I embarked on a cross Ontario road trip we dubbed THE RESTLESS RUST TOUR. It started with me loading into my questionably road-worthy 1994 Volkswagen Eurovan (which the tour was lovingly named after) in London and picking Clark up in Toronto. From there we set out for a birthday celebration with friends in Orillia, and a mosquito ridden camp out under the stars with family in Bracebridge. We then traveled from Huntsville through Algonquin Park to Ottawa where Clark lived with his partner Lyndsay and their dog Ben. We arrived just in time to witness the spectacle of drunken frat boys wearing flags as capes while watching fireworks on Canada Day in the nation’s capital. I drove back home to London solo in the van. I forgot to mention – Eurovan did not have working air conditioning. Having sweat through my last clean pair of shorts, the Eurovan decided enough was enough and exploded in a cloud of steam as radiator fluid burst onto a super heated engine block just outside of Guelph. Luckily for me there was a garage open just off of the highway that was able to patch up the van well enough for it to delicately cruise home. To this day if I close my eyes when I pass that off ramp I can hear Dynamite Walls by Hayden playing on my radio while the chemically sweet smell of burning rad fluid fills my nostrils.
I always hated that van.
